Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most about alt by Alectra — what it is, what you need to take part, and what registering your interest does and does not commit you to.

What is alt by Alectra?

alt is Alectra’s new local energy market. It is being developed to connect local grid needs with energy flexibility from eligible homes and businesses—and pay participants when their flexibility is selected and provided.

Does registering commit me to participate?

No. Registration is free and non-binding. It only tells Alectra that you are interested. It does not enroll you, connect a device, change how you use electricity or require you to participate.

Do I need solar panels, a battery or an EV?

No. Smart thermostats, EV charging, batteries, solar and some types of business equipment may create opportunities, but you can register even if you do not have these technologies or are not sure what may apply to you.

How much could I earn?

There is no fixed amount. Earnings can depend on when and where flexibility is needed, how much support the local grid requires, the type and amount of flexibility provided, available resources and the results of the auction.

Does registering commit me to participate?

No. Registration is free and non-binding. It only tells Alectra that you are interested. It does not enroll you, connect a device, change how you use electricity or require you to participate.

What happens after I register?

Alectra will keep you informed as alt develops and may contact you when relevant opportunities become available. You will receive the details and decide later whether participating works for you.
