Important Notice to Municipal Water Customers

Alectra invoices customers for water, wastewater, and stormwater charges on behalf of the cities of Guelph, Hamilton, Markham, and Vaughan. Through our previous utility companies, we have long-standing relationships with these municipalities to deliver a combined electricity and water bill.

As we approach 2025: Your water, wastewater, and stormwater charges will be billed by your local municipality. More information will be provided in 2024 – until then, you will continue to receive a combined electricity and water bill from Alectra Utilities.

In cooperation with your municipality, Alectra is targeting the end of 2024 to discontinue our utility water billing business. There will be no changes to your water, wastewater, and storm water billing, payments, and invoices until that time.

We are working with each of the municipalities to ensure a smooth transition. More information will be provided to customers as we transfer water billing services to your local municipality.

Why is Alectra discontinuing water bill services?

Over the last few years, the rapid changes across the energy industry and the additional regulatory requirements under which Alectra operates has increased the complexity of combining electricity and water billing.

These challenges, along with Alectra’s strategy to modernize the electricity grid and improve our customers’ overall services and experience, have caused us to reassess our strategic priorities. Alectra has reached a conclusion that we are no longer able to provide the required level of customer service for water billing customers and will be discontinuing our utility water billing business to focus on our electricity services and expand our customer experience capabilities.
