About Time-of-Use
Most residential and small commercial customers have a smart meter and pay time‐of-use (TOU) rates for electricity. With TOU rates, you pay according to the time of day and day of the week you use electricity. TOU rates fluctuate to reflect the fact that the cost to provide electricity changes throughout the day according to provincial supply and demand.
TOU rates are set by the Ontario Energy Board.
- For Time-of-Use Pricing and Tiered Pricing, Alectra Utilities passes this cost through to you, without mark-up, and pays it directly to our suppliers.
- Customers who have signed a contract with an energy retailer pay the price stated in their contract plus the Global Adjustment.
Current TOU Rates
Residential and Small Business customers can submit a request to switch from Time-of-Use Pricing to Tiered Pricing.
You can find more information on how to Choose Your Rate Option or on Tiered Pricing to help you make an informed choice.
