Max Cananzi, MBA, P.Eng
President, Alectra Utilities Corporation
Max Cananzi is the President of Alectra Utilities Corporation, the regulated utility business of Alectra.
In a career that spans over 25 years in the energy and utilities sector, Max has been a key participant in building one of Ontario’s leading energy retailers and facilitating three of the province’s largest utility mergers.
Prior to the formation of Alectra, a consolidation of which he was instrumental in advancing, Max was President and CEO of Horizon Utilities Corporation, one of Ontario’s most successful local electric distribution companies, and President and CEO of Horizon Holdings Inc. and Horizon Energy Solutions Inc. Under his leadership, the company became the first utility in Canada to receive the Sustainable Electricity Company™ designation and the first to rank number one in Corporate Knights Future 40 Responsible Corporate Leaders.
His experience with utility consolidations goes back to 1998, when he was with Scarborough Public Utilities. Max helped facilitate the successful merger of six utilities into the company known today as Toronto Hydro. As VP of Toronto Hydro Energy Services, he was responsible for energy marketing, electricity and natural gas trading, and generation development.
Max serves as a Director on the boards of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), Ontario Energy Association (OEA), Electricity Distributors Association (EDA), Ontario Energy Network (OEN), and Municipal Electric Association Reciprocal Insurance Exchange (MEARIE). He currently Chairs the CEA Board Sustainability Committee.
In 2013, Max was rewarded for his leadership in sustainability and utility performance by being recognized as a Clean50 award recipient.
Max holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA in Finance from the Schulich School of Business at York University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.
