Paul Benson is a seasoned advisor in the areas of strategy, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and corporate finance.
In addition to his role as a Director on the Alectra Inc. Board, Paul is Chair of the Human Resources & Compensation Committee; Vice-Chair of the Audit, Finance & Risk Management Committee and a member of the Development Committee. He was previously the Chair of Hamilton Utilities Corporation and former Chair of the Audit and Risk Management Committee. He also served as a Director and member of the Audit Committee for Horizon Utilities.
Paul has held numerous Board positions including, Chair of Oakville Hydro and the company’s Audit Committee. He was also Chair of the Finance Committee for UNICEF Canada and Chair of the Special Committee addressing the restructuring of Brainhunter – a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Paul is a principal shareholder and Chairman of Isotherm Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of food and beverage heating and cooling appliances for military vehicles sold worldwide.
Paul is a retired Ernst & Young Partner. Having served 26 years at Ernst & Young, Paul’s responsibilities included Group Managing Partner and National Director of Corporate Finance. He was also President and a shareholder in Canadian Corporate Funding Limited. In 2003, Paul established Benson Van Laer & Co. and was a founding partner of Delta Capital, an investment banking boutique.
Paul is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant, holds a B.Comm. (Honours) degree from Queen’s University, and has completed the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program.
